What exactly is Empire Collectables?
Empire Collectables is the brainchild of Paul Drain, a passionate collector of Star WarsŪ memorabilia who is based in Australia.
It should be noted that this little piece of the internet is not a business -- maybe one day it will become successful enough to become one -- but for now, it is just one man, one website and one collection, being refreshed in order to provide the means to enable the collection to grow past the upcoming 30th anniversary of one of the greatest film franchises ever.
As a collector with only so much room to store things, occassionally things need to be sorted through and cleaned out, so Empire Collectables is a way of selling off the parts of the collection that can no longer fit -- after all, having 25 Darth Vader's on a wall, or importing a case of the Vintage Original Trilogy figures just because no local stores have a Greedo in a spiffy brown faux-fur waistcoat and you only want one -- becomes rather impractical.
Yes, eBay could have been used to sell these things, or even one of the Australian garage sale sites -- but all of those have listing fees, ratings systems, copious amounts of advertising and still have scalpers trying to make a packet from the unsuspecting user.
Setting things up using the very configurable Zen-Cart shopping cart software, allows the collection's integrity to be maintained and allows items to be sold privately, from a reputable source, at a fair price -- now and into the future.
